Some universities in the United States have clearly stated minimum test score requirements. Valdosta State University, for example, has baseline SAT minimums of 900 (total score), 440 (math section score), and 24 (reading test score). This institution also uses what they refer to as a "freshman index" to determine eligibility for admission. The freshmen index is calculated by adding SAT scores to high school GPA after the latter has been multiplied by 500 ((GPA * 500) + SAT score = freshman index). This index allows quick and easy screening of applicants, which minimizes institutional costs. While VSU is not a high-ranking school, the transparency of its admissions process is commendable. Most universities, especially those that are highly selective, do not disclose such details about how they screen applicants, and claim to consider all applications "holistically." It is, quite frankly, difficult to take these claims at face value. Some of the top schools attract as many as 40,000 annual applications, and carefully screening that many students could take years and/or require an inordinate and costly number of staff members. It is therefore logical to conclude that most colleges use formulas to some extent (although schools that disclose their acceptance rate by SAT score, such as Brown University, could very well be exceptions).
Manhattan Review's SAT prep courses and private tutoring have helped thousands of students get accepted to top universities such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, UCLA, Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown, the University of Chicago, and the University of Michigan. High SAT scores are typically necessary to gain admission to schools of this caliber, and high-scoring students can also qualify for merit-based scholarships. Rigorous SAT prep can help a student get accepted to college, and can help pay the associated costs. Manhattan Review's past SAT clients have used their degrees to secure important and well-compensated jobs at Fortune 500 companies (including Wells Fargo, General Motors, Enterprise Products Partners, and Archer Daniels Midland), businesses in Brussels (e.g. TCR International, Belgian Investment, Fluxys, and Mediafin), and various public sector organizations (such as government agencies, public advocacy institutes, and charitable foundations). Brussels students can get started today on a lifetime of success with Manhattan Review's SAT prep courses and private tutoring.

Meet a Brussels SAT Tutor: Kenneth R.
Kenneth R. ("Ken" to his friends and students) is a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania who has been teaching SAT prep for ten years. He is a graduate of Penn State University and the University of Maryland, with bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics. He taught SAT prep in the Washington, D.C. area before moving to Brussels in 2016.
Ken has taught SAT prep to over 1,000 students in his career, several of whom have been accepted to universities with admit rates of 25% or less. In addition to his tutoring, Ken uses his mathematical skills to help a number of organizations develop formulas for statistical research and other purposes. His future plans include doctoral study and hopefully a tenured math professorship.
